The Problem

My father and I have a passion for photography but needed a dedicated platform to showcase our work and sell prints. Existing portfolio platforms either lacked the design freedom I wanted and had ongoing fees that didn't make sense for a side project.

The Approach

I designed and built a custom photography portfolio and digital storefront from scratch, using Claude Code.

• Astro frontend with a gallery-focused layout optimised for showcasing photography
• FastAPI backend serving image data and handling digital download purchases
• PostgreSQL database for image metadata, collections, and order management
• Cloudflare for CDN, caching, and image optimisation at the edge
• Responsive design ensuring the photography looks great on every screen size

The Outcome

A fully custom photography website that gives us complete control over presentation, pricing, and the customer experience — with no recurring platform fees. The site serves as both the public portfolio and the storefront for digital downloads.
